Artist Bio
• Bryan J. McLean he/him (°1977- Calgary, Canada). I am multidisciplinary media artist and an undergraduate Painting Major at the Alberta University of the Arts (formerly ACAD). Through digital, oil, and mixed medias I use as a Painter, Poet, Author, and Musician. My research is in Narratives (stories), Dehumanization (monsters), and Hauntology (identity and the experience of time). I also focus on nature, zen buddhism, ttrpg/video game theory, scifi-fantasy tropes, and other literary works. My long-term goal is to become a professional art therapist working to connect adult learners through experimentation with contemporary fine art processes.
about the author
Bryan likes monsters and allegories, he likes painting and zen, dystopias, and cyberpunk.. oh and occult stuff too. He has published a lot of media and poetry in the last twenty years. Raised and educated in Ontario, he’s worked & lived across Canada, traveled places on earth, and eaten many things.
Creating art, music, and stories are the biggest part of his life. He has contributed to role playing books ( rpgs such as Secretum Mundi and Blackvoid) and Anthologies such as 47-16 ( as the bonus track: ‘Fingers’) and has his own poetry collections such as ‘Mountains Become Rivers: urban zazen & wild koans’, ‘The Syndrome Papers’,
‘( 1 )ne Night Stand’, or ‘The Open Air: a dark urban fantasy about the light’, as part of his ongoing project #100days of Poetry. He also makes music under the name Corbae as well as Seven Sharp Secrets.
When he grows up, he hopes to be an Art Therapy Professional - because the future needs more creative problem solvers, where he is hoping to inspire others to create their own work.
A city mouse with delusions of hiking the great outdoors, Bryan is now in a long term relationship with alternatively-seasoned Calgary, Alberta, where he resides with his beautiful wife, dog, and daughter.
